A Must Have – Chicken’s {Mobile Home Homesteading }

I’m back yes I’m back so I hope you join today’s video get
ready for next week this could be all kinds of new exciting things that we’re
gonna be doing I got a power projects this thing and I got to get working on
them so take care buddy we’ll see you guys with a brand new video starting
Sunday this format and you know what maybe this format wonder worked a year
ago or maybe it would have but right now in this time in my life I just love it
like this and this is how my videos are going to be so my videos are gonna be
like this but I’m gonna be doing things and a gonna be teaching and I’m gonna be
sharing but my videos are just like this I’m having so much fun editing it’s like
a little story on mini mini so enough of talking and let’s get
cleaning can you believe all the eggs I’m getting
this is absolutely unreal to get this many eggs like in February all right all
right all right all right this chickens are hungry I can see that already I
should have brought my basket I didn’t realize it have so many eggs they didn’t
realize how bad this chicken house is oh heavens well the little nesting box that
I made for him kind of deteriorated because it was rotten to begin with I
have a real mess here so this didn’t work I mean it worked for a while and
I’m gonna see if I can fix it even more right so I got all the old bedding out and now we put the new bedding in I
can’t believe I just can’t wait how warm it is it feels so good it’s a lot of
work though it’s a lot of work cleaning out the chicken house because there’s a
lot of bending you have to do but you get to sit and watch the chickens a
little bit that helps you a lot oh my goodness they sure like to eat don’t
they though all right so let’s put the new shade means in you know this isn’t
no fancy homesteaders Channel my chicken coop is whatever I can find I don’t have
fancy stuff I use whatever I can find i camera with me it’s kind of like having
an IV pole you know you know when you have an IV in the hospital and you got
to drag the camera you know when you have an IV in the hospital and you have
to drag it everywhere you go that’s what this cameras like I’ve been dragging it
everywhere I go so far I never dropped my camera yet I
sure hope I don’t cuz I could never afford a new one who owe me now this is
a messy job sit a break now I truly look like a
farmer I have soda shavings and straw all over me but it sure is fun to be out
here I really can’t wait for spring I know
this this winter has been incredibly amazing but I’m so ready for spring I’m
so ready to get out in the garden and get rototilling and planting this year
as you know it’s my YouTube garden all the seeds are from all of you and I’m
going to be planting my garden with the memories of all of you and I’m really
excited for that yes it’s going to be some vegetables and yes it’s going to be
some herbs and some flowers it’s gonna be a little bit of everything I think one thing I’ve noticed since I’m
older when I was younger I would always run out of stuff like I would run out of
feed I would run out of bedding for the chickens I would run out of everything
and then we had to go that day to town to get it this is so much different you
know now I always have a extra supply so when I run out of feed I have another
bucket of feed and when I run out of bedding have another bale of bedding and
that really helps helps a lot because we’re down to one car now and so when
hubby’s not here I don’t have a vehicle and I do very little driving I bet y’all
drive five times in a year if that so when hubby’s away I have my daughters
and so my my second daughter she doesn’t like to drive either
I know amazing and she’s young but my oldest daughter she’ll take me
everywhere I want to go so and they all live within a couple miles from me so I
get to go everywhere I want you know it’s just a phone call away and we are
very close so that’s nice but with that said it’s always good to be prepared and
I talked about being prepared in your food but if you have livestock or cats
or dogs you know to be prepared in that way as well
and you know a lot of people talk about me having a pet my chickens are my pets
and I spend a lot of time with them and I really am NOT interested in having a
dog or cat right now now I used to have a dog we had a dog here on the homestead
and buddy lived with us for about nine years and buddy passed away the first
year I think we were this place and sees that there was nothing we could do about
it and he passed away and I never got another dog and my children are all
married and they have animals of their own and so I just had my chickens you
know everybody loves a different kind of pet
some people have snakes and some people chickens my brother had a tranch Allah
for many many years until one day that the tarantula got
loose and my sister-in-law was taking a bath and it ran across her bathroom
floor enough was of that if he got rid of that channel he gave it to somebody
else and he never got another one I’m not really a big pet person but I do
love my chickens and someday if I ever move from here I will have more chickens
and more livestock but right now remember what I always tell you we got
to be thankful for what we have if something would ever come up I would
move in a heartbeat but you know what I’m enjoying it every single day where I
live and being able to just share with everybody you know some day would be
nice to have some acres and be more secluded I think that would be my goal
it would be fun but hey if I’m here the rest of my life I’m just as happy as can
be hey everybody wait a second if you like
videos about my daily life and you like to see how do I do things here on the
homestead take a look at all these videos below it’s three years worth of
beautiful videos that I get to share with you my life and my dreams for the
future take care everyone

Yesโ€™ i used to have chickens. I loved them and my husband made them a beautiful chicken house ( yes beautiful) people wanted to stop by to see it. I used sand to pick up their droppings and used a scoop to pick it up . I kept it up … it only took me 10 minutes or less to do it. But at the bottom i used shavers like you use. But my back got bad and had to have surgery, so i had to give them up. Broke my heart. I loved my chickens !

  • Keith Sutton

Keep up the good work I enjoy my chickens to I go out there feed them water talk to them pester them and I spoil them . I have another one might just thinking do you want me to send it to you

  • Carol Dotson

You should play the chicken dance song when there outside spreading the bedding around. It's a polka. ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ”

  • Your Gal Divinity

When I had chickens, I had 5 hen's. They all looked like your lighter red ones. They were named Henrietta, Ruby, peaches, pumpkin and butterscotch. I sure miss them. We moved to a mobile home park and of course couldn't have them here.

  • Cathy B

Get yourself some 5 Gallon buckets and nail three 2×4โ€™s across the back of the shed about 2 foot off the floor. One on the back wall and one out to 3 inches from edge of a 5 gallon bucket and another turned on its side about 4 to 5 inches from front of opening of bucket for a perch. Put the buckets on the 2×4โ€™s laying down opening towards you and nail down on the 2×4โ€™s. You can put straw in them and they clean out nicely with jersey gloves. โค๏ธ

When I watch your videos it's like being with my best friend. Please always keep dragging that camera around Tessie. You are so down to earth.God bless you and your family.Love you bunches

  • Fran Harrison

    Hey Tessie,
Would like to share a bit of us with you, we too have chickens about 15, 3 turkeys, & for now 2 baby chicks. They all seem to get along. They are free range roaming the the woods & yard area. At dust the turkeys ๐Ÿฆƒ have their own compound for overnight stays; the chickens have a chicken house we call โ€œEGGMARTโ€. In addition to using very little chicken & turkey food; they forge & we also give them table scraps & bread(the discount bread store sells HUGES bags of variety stale bread, maybe 25 loaves), they love it. Also, our nest are made from plastic milk containers attached by zip ties( from dollar tree).

  • Shirley Drake

Watching you tonight It struck me, your little wash house would make a great brooder house for your baby chicks, if you decide to raise a few. Iโ€™m up to four hens and one rooster now. Iโ€™m getting three eggs consistently each day. One of my hens is a pulled, so Iโ€™m not sure if she is laying consistently yet.

  • Shirley Drake

I love to see your hens scratching through their bedding. They look so contented. Just non stressed hens, being chickens with their friend! I canโ€™t even fit into my chicken house. Itโ€™s made from a converted playhouse. Blessings to you and yours!

  • Carol Deaton

I went to see if made a comment on this video yet and I have not. What made me think I had watch this before because I remember you saying about your brother having a pet tarantula and some people might have snakes and everything you said. And I stayed the comments were just made within hours ago. I thought you had said that before to us. Please Tessie tell me I'm not losing my mind ๐Ÿ˜† and I remember you telling us about your children and living close. Please help granny out here and tell me if I lost it or not. That was pretty awesome watching the chickens kick the shavings up like they were little doggies or cats. Sending Tons of love from a Kentucky granny that might be confused a little bit in life here๐Ÿ˜œ. Sending you tons of Love till next time have a nice evening.๐Ÿ’•

  • Sunshine Baker

Tessie, do you name your chickens? Brought back my memories of growing up with chickens, loved them except the rooster who chased me and tried to flop me!!

  • J T

Hi Tessie. ๐Ÿ‘‹ I laughed so hard, watching the chickens kicking that straw around. All the YouTubers that raise chickens love their birds. They're so entertaining. Thanks. ๐Ÿ˜€
    Have a perfect Sunday. ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒธ

  • rakesfunnyfarm

My son had chickens when he young. He would sell the eggs. We used to raise our own hogs. But the feed got to were we could not afford it. My youngest son still lives me and does the garden. I don't have a green thumb.

  • Mary Glover

I love watching your girls scratch around. They are so healthy. You are a cute farmer๐Ÿค—. After watching your channel. Now have back up supplies and for the first time I donโ€™t have to run when I empty something. It is a great feeling. Thanks Tessie.

  • Kate King

Tessie girl- you work so hard! Those the healthiest chickens Iโ€™ve ever seen! You are a good steward with all you have. Thanks for being a good example. โ˜บ๏ธโค๏ธu

Hi Tessie, My husband and I drove around Ohio's Amish country today. We saw some fields already plowed. The skies here have been cloud free for days. It's a wonderful relief from all the darkness of winter. I got the cutest galvanized metal sunflower to put by my fence. It has a thermometer in it's face. I cheated on my diet and ate Ho Ho cake. It was delicious!!!

  • Abigail Vomelmo

Hi Tessie! โ˜บ What a nice day to clean out your chicken house! I know you had much fun!
Editing? ๐Ÿ˜• I thought you gave that up.
I would like to share with you, if you didn't already know; in the olden days (and presently), aprons were worn often & also served the purpose of gathering eggs in the front & holding the hem up to coddle them (like a kangaroo sack ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š). So, no worries when you don't bring your basket to gather eggs, just wear an apron (an oversized t-shirt will do). Also, Tessie! You're working too hard! I know that you MUST have a hoe/rake! Use it to break up & scatter/spread the shavings. You could also use a pitch fork & if you don't have one of those, use your POTATO fork ๐Ÿ˜„. They're forecasting another beautiful day today: Sunny & in the 50's; AWWWWESOME ๐Ÿ‘ Enjoy.
    Tyfs. โ˜บโ˜บ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

Dollar stores sell face masks to wear while doing a job with flying debris, keeping your lungs down clean. Please wear one or a bandana over your nose and mouth.

  • kerry Irving

I LOVED my pets I had when I was a child! My dad learned my budgie to talk & do tricks! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ HAPPY MEMORIES that I CHERISH!

  • SensaiMan

Another reply from me! I just spotted that I hadn't subscribed to this channel. How strange is that, I was sure that I was. Maybe something went wrong somewhere along the line? Just to remind everyone to make sure that you are subscribed:)

  • A Wyoming Prairie Wife

Thereโ€™s nothing like homesteading, Miss Tess…and chickens ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐlife is good on the farm…you have a beautiful life…God is good ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Blessings ๐Ÿฅฐโค๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡

  • Jamie Rossi

Tessie I've never seen chickens so up close, gosh do I appreciate it. The way they kick with their wee lil chicken feet. I can't even, it's so darling. Congratulations on your blessing of eggs.

  • Christy w

Hi Tessie, It's Christine. I was wondering if you could let me know if you put the picture Marin made you in your video yet. We were away. I have been watching but a few times I was distracted and I am not sure if I missed it. I am so glad you liked the towel. I saw it in Target and thought of you right away. Thank you for the gift of you! Much love!

  • Sue Brickett

I have noticed throughout your videos this winter that your chickens are still laying without artificial light in the coop, are they first year chickens? Chickens lay year round for the first year, then taper off in the winter to pick up again in the next spring. What a blessing to get so many eggs. I saw a lot of dust flying around from the new bedding, that stuff will get in your lungs, I wear a mask when I clean out my chicken coop. I developed asthma a few years ago from breathing in dust from hay, straw and sawdust. Just a friendly observation. Take care.

  • LoveLife

Hey Tessie. That's a lot of work girlfriend. It was so relaxing & enjoyable for me to just sit back with my feet propped up & watch you do all the work. LOL You should wear one of those little masks over your nose & mouth tho. There was a lot of dust fill the coop while spreading the straw. My head & nose would be all plugged up, lol. God Bless.

  • Sara Jane

Itโ€™s so cute to see the chickens scratching the hey. Youโ€™d look pretty with a purplish pink color lipstick. Hope your having a wonderful day Tessie. ๐Ÿค—. Oh Tessie you know whatโ€™s also fun to plant? Is zinnia flowers! Cuz when you plant them they keep growing till finally they bloom and itโ€™s a surprise to see what color theyโ€™re gonna be sooo beautiful! ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒท๐Ÿ’๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒบ

  • OneWomanAndSomeSongs

I think you do a good job on your videos, Tessie. Nice editing, and your camera work is so clear too. Wish I had some chickens, lol. I live in a suburb, so they will only let you have cats or dogs. Have fun with all your chores. ๐Ÿ™‚ Janet

  • Lois Rader

I worry about you cleaning the chicken coop without a mask. I donโ€™t mean to sound condemning of you just concerned for you. You are a great inspiration to us all. โค๏ธ

  • Polonia Rosa Carrasquillo

    YEPPY ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

  • Susan Taylor

I use pine shavings in mine I do my cleaning at least every week part of it and if it's not to bad I leave some for the nexted cleaning but it is a messy job lol

  • Vicki Bevington

I love my chickens but I don't believe in using a coop. Cleaning chicken feces can cause a respiratory infection and can KILL you. I have cared for many people in hospital with this illness. Several were fatal. I use a carport with fencing. I have 2 Livestock Guardian Dogs that patrol my property and protect all the critters and me. My chickens are free range 24 hrs day. Never closed in.

  • ellen fisher

Tessie, when we increased the size of our flock, we needed more nesting boxes. I suggested we take the square & rectangle shaped plastic buckets instead of lumber. So Roger got a bunch of my buckets & fastened them to the wall . They work great & are much easier to clean , & last longer than the wood ! I've been canning ground beef all day . You are right, we should not only prep for us , but for our pets & livestock too !

  • elaine nicholls

I don't think the shaving dust is good for you to breathe in. Maybe you should use a mask. Like the ones the hospitals use. I usually ask for a couple..they always say yes.

  • Judy A. Shroads

Your house is very fancy. It's your kind heart that appeals to ppl. Whatever works for your chickens is good. Looks like you take good care of them. Is there a window in the coop?

  • Kathy GARBEล”

Evening Tessie, evening everyone. Trip to ER yesterday evening! Sick n tired of being sick n tired ! 3 rounds of antibiotics and steroids in.the last 6 weeks….so so hard on the body , but , guess there's no other option . Prayers please ? Be blessed y'all.

  • Johnnie Sue Gauss

Hello Tessie, I want you to know you have Inspired me to do canning and get my self out of this funk that i'm in! I even went back to church, i didn't know how much i missed it! So TY TESSIE, I will let you know when i start canning , i've been looking for jars and a canner so until i get them , GOD BLESS YOU TESSIE & YOUR FAMILY ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Melissa Peltier

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. We are getting chickens in the spring. Do you make your own chicken feed? I'm also glad you made the point about having extra feed as a part of being prepared! Have a great Monday. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Peggy Thomas

What kind of camera do you use? I've been thinking of starting a channel; but, really don't know where to start! You are so lucky to have your kids close to you! My son & family live 500 miles away from us. My daughter lives an hour away; but, she owns her own hair salon and has quite the clientele–so, she is very busy. She has several stylist that are in her salon as well. Keeping track of all that and her family is 24/7! I do see her at least once every six weeks when she dyes my hair!

  • yolanda4754

Same here! I don't like to drive and now my oldest daughter 21 doesn't either. Unfortunately I think my anxieties have rubbed off on her too๐Ÿ™‚

  • Not Sew perfect

I enjoyed this Video more than any you have ever made! It was simple but I so enjoyed watching those happy chickens and you enjoying being about your day. Looking forward to more like it.

  • gata taz

  • Nemie125

Awww…I love your chickies! I used to keep hens also until last year when my last one passed away. Nothing beats fresh eggs and they are such adorable little characters.

  • Mustard Seed

Hi Tessie, love watching your chickens, they look very happy and healthy.I find the sound they make very relaxing.Thankyou sweetheart. Xxxxxxx

  • Richard Schmidt

I watched this the other day, forgot to push the button…glad I came back to it! ๐Ÿ™‚ We love our chickens too, Tessie! I've got 23 girls right now….they're awesome! Blessings from Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN ๐Ÿ™‚
