SEO FOR ARCHITECTS – {Rank on Google & Make Money}

– So in this video, I’ll be
going over SEO for architects. So before I dive into
exactly what you need to know about SEO for architecture,
first of all, who am I? My name’s Zukais, and
I’m an SEO consultant. And all this means is I grow businesses by ranking them on Google. So let’s get straight into it. So first of all, what is
SEO, and why is it important? So many of you probably already know this, but just in case you don’t, SEO simply stands for
search engine optimization. And it’s simply the act of finding searches
related to your business and ranking for them. So you’re an architect in London, so you’d want to rank for something like architect in London. And of course, you’d want to make sure that that search term
has volume to it, right, and then you’d rank on Google for it. And the major benefit, of course, is when you’re ranking on
it, you’ll get visitors, and then those visitors
will turn into leads, and then those leads will
turn into clients, right. So that’s pretty much it. Pretty simple and pretty straightforward. So the first thing you’re
going to want to do is actually create a
well-designed website. And this might seem
obvious, and you might think you already have a well-designed website, but you see, the thing is, a lot of people skip over this part, and their website is just really subpar. It’s just really badly designed. It’s not set up for conversions. And even though these companies
earn quite a bit of money, not many of them invest in
a well-designed website, even though this website could generate them more revenue, right. So that’s the first thing you need to do, create a well-designed website. And here’s an example of
a bad designed website. And this is actually common amongst architects and interior designers. Just a really crappy
website, which is funny, because they specialize in design, but their web design is
just bad, pretty much. So you don’t want something like this. Ideally, something like this. This is actually not an architect website or an interior design website. This is an electrician’s
website, and it’s pretty good. It’s optimized for conversions. And as you can see,
just going through them, through the slides, what
the page looks like, right. So you’ve got testimonials. You’ve got the color
schemes going well, right. You’ve got a yellow going in,
yellow here, yellow there. And it’s just overall a
really well-designed website. Now what’s too obsessed web design? Now this is where people get too obsessed by their web design, but they don’t want
anything to touch it, right, they don’t want to change at all. And it’s actually really bad for SEO, because I see some architects now actually are refusing to put
content on their website. If you’re not going to do that, it’s going to make it
extremely hard for you to rank, and it’s going to make
the time for you to rank a hell of a lot longer. Normally it takes about a
solid six months to rank, and they could push it
all the way to 12 months, even moreso, right. So don’t get too obsessed
with your web design. You just need a basic
and clean design website. And yeah, that’s pretty much it. So next up, you need to do
the right keyword research. So all keyword research is is finding search terms
related to your business, in a data-driven way. So again, finding search terms
related to your business. So you’re an architect in Birmingham, so you could do something like that, architect in Birmingham. (sneezes) Excuse me, man. So architect in Birmingham,
like I was saying. Best architects in
Birmingham, architects in, and then you can name an
area in Birmingham, right. It could be architect in Birmingham East. Sorry, architect in London,
East London, South London, architect in Chelsea. So you’re just going to
target the right areas. And make sure there’s
actually volume there, because there’s no point
going for a search term which has no volume. That’s just a major waste of time. So next up is, again, this is just some of the
keyword research I did. So London architecture has approximately 1,000 to
10,000 searches a month. Architect, just the word architect, 10,000 to 100,000 searches. Home architecture, 100 to
1,000 searches a month. And yeah, you get the point, right. And the tool I’m using here
is the Google Keyword Planner, and it’s free to use. So next up is you’re going to create
your service pages, right. What services do you offer? So it’s obviously architect. What do you do, residential
architect, commercial architect? And you’re going to create landing pages dedicated to your services, right. So next up is you’re going
to create supporting content. This is going to help your rank and make your website
look a lot more relevant in the eyes of Google, right. So you can have your service pages there, but adding supporting content is going to go a long way, right. So this is basically just blogging, right. So you’re going to want to
optimize your content, right, whether on your landing pages,
i.e. your service pages, or your blog pages. Want to make sure to
optimize your content. So the main ways to do
this is have your keyword, that keyword you want to rank
for, right, the search term, in your URL, which is this here, the Google title, which is basically when you
type something into Google, then there comes the title of course, and in the post title, right, that’s a H1. And there’s a bunch more things, but those are the three main things. The top three I would say. Have your keyword in them,
so the URL, the title, and in the post, right. As you can see, that’s the post title. Maybe I can move my camera. There we go. So this website’s going
for Vegeta quotes, right. So they got it in the URL here, they’ve got it in the Google title, and they’ve got it as a
H1, in the actual content. And if you type in Vegeta quotes, this website is actually ranking one, and that’s why, right. So they’ve optimized
for this keyword, right, i.e. on-page SEO. So next up is build backlinks,
right, or link building. So all a backlink is is simply a link from one
website to another website. So you’ve got website A and
it’s linking to website B. So website B has received
a backlink from Website A. And the best way to think of
these backlinks is as votes. The more votes you get, the
higher you will rank, right. Pretty simple. And there’s a lot more to link building, but that’s pretty much the basics. Of course, you want links
from relevant sites. So you’ve got an architect website, you don’t wanna link from a
video game website, right. That doesn’t make sense, and could even get you
penalized by Google, right. So don’t do something like that. So make sure your links
are actually relevant and coming from high-quality sites. It’s not about quantity, it’s
about the quality of the link. So next up is do the
internal link building. This is one of my favorite strategies. So basically, you utilize
all the hard work you’ve done building those backlinks, and you basically funnel
the link juice, right, the power of the backlinks,
to your other pages, through internal linking. You’ve got these websites, right, and they’re linking to your website. Now you’ve got your inner pages, right, maybe your other service pages. You’re linking out to those pages, and the power of the links are actually spreading
to your other pages. So you don’t have to keep on
constantly building backlinks. So this is just an easy way to leverage the links
you’ve already built, and it’s just a clever
way to do it, right. Don’t work hard, work smart. So next up is you need to create citations and get listed on directories. So you can use something
like Yellow Pages, Foursquare, Yelp, Hotfrog. Just get Google to notice that
you’re an actual business, because anyone can create a website and try to rank for keywords, but when you create things
like social media pages, get listed on different directories, then Google can actually understand that you’re a real business, and then they’ll actually
start ranking you a lot higher. So the next thing you’re
going to want to do is optimize your damn images. So I stress this quite a lot. So this is something that I
don’t see many people doing, is optimizing their images. So first of all, you need to
make your image sizes small, because I go on a lot
of architects’ website, and interior designers, and their website takes
quite a while to load, or at least the image, right. And each block’s just loading in, and that’s because the
image size is way too big. So you need to actually optimize that. So I just use this tool
called Optimizilla. Just go on image compressor, and you’ll just find this
ranking on the first page. So you just upload your image, and it’ll just automatically
shrink it for you, without losing any quality. And then you can get into
more detail with this tool and actually start messing
around with it yourself, right. So the more you reduce the image size, the less quality of the image, right. The quality of the image will decrease. So next up is if you’re on WordPress, you can just download
a plugin called Smush. It’s free, and whenever
you upload an image, it’ll automatically reduce
the image file size. So it’ll do automatically for you. So if you pair both of these tools, it’ll dramatically reduce
your image file size. And next up is to make sure
to optimize your alt text, your description, and title. So basically make sure to put
your keyword in there, right. So that’s how you optimize your images. And there’s more to it, but
I’ll just leave it at that. So next up, need to optimize
your site for speed, because everyone nowadays just
wants instant results, right. So you need to give them that. If your website takes too long to load, they’re just going to bounce off, and when you bounce off,
when people bounce off, your rankings are going
to take a hit, right. So the way to optimize for
speed is optimize for images, like I said in a previous slide. Just use those free tools. Change your hosting package, right. So you might be on free hosting,
which I don’t recommend, get paid hosting, or you might be getting quite
a few people to your website. Then you might even want to consider something called cloud hosting. So next up, it could be
reducing your site’s code. So the theme you’ve installed, maybe it takes too much coding, right. There’s too much code in there, and you basically want to
reduce the amount of code, or even switch to a different theme, or have someone create a
new design for you, right. Next up is install an SSL certificate. This is a big one. I don’t see many architects doing this. So all an SSL certificate is is basically an encryption
for your website. It makes it safer. And when you install it,
there’s going to be a padlock, and if you don’t install
it, next year your URL is going to say site not
safe, right, not secure. So you don’t want that. That could actually make
people bounce off your website, and so you want to install this. It costs, typically, about 30 quid, depending on which host and
provider you’re with, right. So the price varies. Anyways, it’s easy to install. Just buy it, set it up, or you could just hire
someone to do it for you. So next up is basically I just
